Where We Be
Kleine Scheidegg, Switzerland
Kleine Scheidegg is a high mountain pass
between Eiger and Lauberhorn peaks with killer
views in all directions. It connects Grindelwald
with Lauterbrunnen and is one of THE things to
do in the Jungfrau region. Hikes radiate out
from here in all directions. We had originally
planned to hike the trail down to Grindelwald,
but when we started down it we realized we
were heading away from the best views of the
“big three”
-- Eiger, Monch, and Jungfrau. So
instead we decided to head
UP the mountain
to
wards Eiger Glacier. This turned out to be a
great choice
: we got fantastic closeups of the
snow-capped mountains and got away from the
crowds at the train station at Kleine Scheidegg.

Once the clouds started building, we headed
down the valley towards Wengen, where the
sun was still shining. The stretch of trail to
Wengenalp was e
specially pretty. The town of
Wengen itself is worth a visit and could serve
as a great base
for exploring the Jungfrau.
Looking down on Wengen from on high -- what a setting!
The center of Wengen has a convenient Coop for
groceries. Note the steep snow fences high above town.
Some artistic soul in Wengen turned this pile of kindling into a perch for a flower pot
Our original plan was to hike down to Grindelwald
Kleine Scheidegg is a high mountain pass between Eiger and Lauberhorn
Peaks. In one direction is Lauterbrunnen and in the other Grindelwald.
But instead we decided to head up towards Eiger Glacier with its dramatic high-mountain views
Every once in awhile a train would pass, filled with sightseers
It doesn't get much better than this -- a sunny day in the high mountains of Switzerland
As the clouds began to build, we hiked down towards Wengenalp (that sunny plateau)
The train ride between Wengen and Kleine Scheidegg passed through some gorgeous country
As the train made its way up the steep tracks near Wengen,
we got beautiful views looking down on Lauterbrunnen Valley
