Where We Be
We thought Anchorage Beach Resort had one
of the nicest stretches of beach on Caye Caulker
Caye Caulker, Belize
Looking back at Anchorage Beach Resort from the cabana
We liked the colorful Adirondack chairs under the palm
trees -- and the open-air cabana at the end of the dock
Can' you just feel your stress levels dropping?
Our chillax zone. We spent many happy hours here reading
borrowed books in the hammocks and Adirondack chairs.
Our room was #21 at the top right corner on the third floor
View from the balcony. Anchorage Beach is near the southern end
of the island. Getting to the center of town is a ten-minute walk.
This sandy path leads from the resort into
town. It isn't exactly a painful commute!
Along the way you'll pass numeorus docks with open-air cabanas
In a few minutes you'll reach the southern end of town
Near the center of town it gets a little busier (but just a little!)
This is pretty much the pace of life in Caye Caulker! Waaaay slowed down.
You'll pass numerous low-key restaurant options. Our two favorites on the island were Ana’s Aladdin Cuisine at the north end
of the island -- amazing falafels and babaganoush! -- and Fantasy Dining for its BBQ kabobs and happy hour rum drinks.
It's pretty much obligatory to have your
picture taken in front of this colorful sign
At the northernmost tip of the island is The Split, a narrow waterway separating Caye Caulker's main
southern island from the less visited northern island. The Lazy Lizard beach bar is located at The Split.
If you're looking for a wide-open beach feel,
the Lazy Lizard is your best bet on Caye Caulker
It's a good place to catch some rays or watch the sunset over the ocean
You'll find a nice sunbathing deck here. It's also the place
to come for drinking, partying, and general merriment.
From The Split we circled around south, heading past the quieter
western side. (Yes, there's an even quieter side to Caye Caulker!)
After nearly a week on this funky little island we felt
very mellow indeed. Ready to take on the world again!
The ferry from Ambergris Caye to Caye Caulker
only took half an hour. We got off and walked
south for ten minutes with our packs slung
over our backs on a hot, still day. Immediately
we could tell this was a quieter island with its
sandy streets, no cars at all, and far fewer golf
carts -- mostly just pedestrians and bikes. We
liked the quiet vibe straight off. We arrived at
Anchorage Beach Resort and checked into our
third floor room with balcony view of the ocean.
We cranked the AC and settled in.

Caye Caulker was our chance to just chillax and
do nothing -- and I'd say we picked the perfect
place to do it. True, we could have done more
snorkeling from here, but we'd already hit the
key spots. And after a busy month of traveling
we were ready to just relax. We read novels in
hammocks in a shaded cabana at the end of a
dock and watched the frigatebirds hovering
high above in the steady ocean breezes. Pretty
idyllic. We did go exploring one day, making a
circle around the island, but otherwise we were
happy to let our trip wind down in a quiet way.

breezes made it comfortable even on a hot day.
